Even going in for a routine teeth cleaning can create anxiety in patients heading into dental offices around the country. This can be particularly true for someone facing procedures like dental implants or tooth extraction.

At Dental Implant Experts, we want you to rest assured that you have nothing to worry about. Most patients come out of their tooth extraction/dental implant procedures saying, “That wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it would be!”

What exactly are dental implants?

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root that is placed into your jaw in order to hold an artificial tooth or bridge in place. It is an excellent, permanent choice for people who have lost teeth due to injury or periodontal disease. After a tooth has been extracted, an implant can replace the missing tooth.

Will the dental implant procedure hurt?

A dental implant procedure is surgery, and it is fair to suspect some discomfort. But at Dental Implant Experts, we help keep that discomfort to a minimum. Not only do we administer an anesthetic to ensure that our patients are numb in the treatment area, but we can also provide sedation dentistry to help keep you in a deeply relaxed state during all of our surgical procedures. Either way, the procedure will be totally pain-free.

Will I be in pain after the tooth extraction and dental implant procedure?

Discomfort after a dental implant procedure is comparable to the type of discomfort that exists during other routine dental procedures. You might expect some minor residual bleeding after the surgery, since incisions are made in the gums, but it will not be anything too extensive. You may also experience some aching after the anesthesia wears off, but that will dissipate over time. Those patients who have undergone bone grafts along with their dental implants can expect to have some facial bruising and tenderness, but it will not be severe, and you can expect to quickly resume normal activity. Additionally, we can provide prescriptions to help control pain levels during the recovery period.

How to your minimize discomfort while you recover from dental implant surgery.

Make sure to listen to all of the recommendations by your dentist as to how to minimize your post-surgical discomfort. If, however, you find that over-the-counter pain medication isn't enough to manage your discomfort, ask your dentist for a prescription for something stronger. And be sure to take care of yourself by eating soft foods and brushing and flossing more gently than you normally would.

We will do everything we can to keep you comfortable.
